About TIFF and WEBP
TIFF .tiff
A flexible container used wherever image fidelity matters more than file size — scanning, publishing and archives. A single TIFF can hold multiple pages.

- One format covers photographs, graphics and short animations

- Older software and some print workflows still will not open it
- Lossy WebP discards detail just as JPEG does
- Editing tools support it less consistently than PNG or JPEG

What changes when you convert TIFF to WEBP
TIFF can hold more than one page
A single TIFF may contain several pages, and a WEBP holds exactly one image. A multi-page TIFF therefore cannot be represented as one WEBP — each page needs a file of its own.
You choose how much to keep
WEBP can compress either lossily or losslessly, so the quality setting decides the outcome rather than the format. High quality stays close to the TIFF you started with; lower settings trade visible detail for a much smaller file.
Camera data is removed by default
A TIFF straight from a phone or camera carries EXIF metadata — model, settings, timestamp and, quite often, the GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken. The converted WEBP is written without it, so a file you are about to share does not quietly carry your location. The orientation flag is read and applied to the pixels first, so the image will not come out sideways once the tag holding it is gone. If you need the metadata kept, there is a setting for it.
How the WEBP is written
Our default is quality 82, with the encoder choosing colour subsampling per image rather than applying it blindly. The quality control on the converter moves this if you need to — the default aims to be indistinguishable from the source at a sensible file size, rather than to win a compression benchmark.
